The Best Fish Oil Supplement

November 2nd, 2009 admin No comments

There are so many benefits of omega 3 fatty acids but you can not derive these benefits unless your body absorbs the nutrients, that is why the best fish oil supplements are the ones that are bio-available to your body. Taking a supplement that is not bio-available to your body is just a waste of time and money; if it is not readily available, then your body can not absorb the nutrients (DHA and EPA omega 3 fatty acids) and you will not get the benefits they have to offer.

Bio-availability is determined by the shape of what you consume; your stomach converts food particles into natural molecules that is compatible with the body for easy absorption. The food particles are said to be bio-available when they are easily absorbed by the body. Therefore you can only get the benefits of fish oil when its nutrients(omega 3 fatty acids) are absorbed by your body; and the more natural the molecules the better these nutrients are absorbed.

For you to be able to determine the best fish oil supplements, it is important to know about the different forms available on the market:

#1. Natural fish oil – this comes in a triglyceride form; it is gotten by ’squeesing’ fish and extracting the natural oil from it. It is readily available but the disadvantages of this form are: it has low amount of DHA and very high amount of contaminants such as mercury, dioxin PBCs and heavy metals.

#2. Ethyl ester – This form is gotten when you concentrate natural triglyceride oil after purifying it through the process of molecular distillation. It is a semi-natural form because it is derived through a process that naturally occurs in the body thereby making it bio-available to the body; this is why the best fish oil supplements should be in this form. It is important to note that the concentration process doubles or even triples the omega-3 content of the fish oil.

#3. Synthetic triglyceride – This is another form and it is generally common and widely marketed as ‘natural’; but the truth is that it is not a natural triglyceride. It is produced after concentration like the ester form; but the problem is that most manufacturers re-convert it into triglyceride which is a synthetic form. It is synthetic because the structure of the molecules are altered due to the fact that the original position of the carbon bonds change during the process of re-conversion; thereby affecting their bio-availability. Do you know why manufacturers do this? they do it so that they can claim that their brands are natural triglyceride and therefore the best fish oil supplements on the market; but the reality is that they are not.

Although there are so many omega 3 supplements out there competing for attention; with some research you can find one that is in ester form(bio-available). I found one that is manufactured by a company in New Zealand; it is sold on the internet and shipped worldwide. Apart from being in ester form, this brand is molecularly dilstilled; it also has high amount of DHA and more than double anti-inflammatory properties than ‘normal’ fish fatty acids which makes it one of the best fish oil supplements on the market today.
