Fish Oil Capsuls

August 21st, 2009 admin No comments

Have you ever wondered if the fish oil capsule you are taking is doing you any good?  You need to be aware of some of the ones that could actually be harming your body. Some have a high level of mercury and other contaminates that you wouldn’t knowingly want in your body.

The problem is you don’t know what is in the product you are taking unless you research where it comes from and how it is processed. Not all fish oil capsules are alike.  Some are good and some are bad.

You might ask how can you find out if the one you are taking is good or bad.  Read on and I will tell you a few things to look for when searching for the best Omega 3 products.

First, the fish needs to come from waters that are unpolluted, like the Southern Ocean off the coast of New Zealand.  Definitely don’t consume a fish oil capsule if the fish was harvested from the Indian Ocean, unless you know stringent methods have been taken to remove all contaminates. The Indian Ocean is known to be the most polluted ocean in the world.

Second, find out if the oil comes from one species of fish.  This assures a consistent quality in the product.  The supplement I take is made only from Hoki, a deep-sea fish naturally high in DHA and unique to New Zealand waters.  If your product is made up of different species you cannot be assured of the purity, quality or effectiveness of the fish oil.

Third, be sure the oil is molecularly distilled.  Even though it is harvested from unpolluted water there is still possible contamination.  Using a gentle vacuum to molecularly distill the oil is the only acceptable method of processing. A company that has anything less for a processing standard is not taking your health seriously, and could be harming you with dangerous product.

Fourth, know how your brand of fish oil is tested.  Testing should be done by an independent government certified laboratory, and each batch should be tested for content of essential fatty acids and for contamination.  If the product does not meet with strict specifications the company should discard the product.
