Fish Oil Triglycerides
Concerned about blood fats? Why not try taking fish oil for triglycerides? There’s a growing body of evidence that suggests that omega 3 fatty acids can lower dangerous blood fats and deliver numerous other health benefits too.
What are triglycerides? They are fat molecules in food and in your body. Oddly enough, we need them for good health because the body stores any calories it does not need from your food intake as triglycerides and releases them again when you need them. But it’s all too easy for them to rise to very high levels in the blood, where they are implicated in heart disease.
So we need ways to keep these blood fats down to acceptable levels. It’s one of the most pressing health problems in Western society today, since our diet is rich in fats and carbohydrates and most of us don’t get enough exercise. These are key factors in elevated triglyceride levels.
As well as considering taking fish oil for triglycerides, there are a number of things you can do to reduce these blood fats: reduce your calorie intake from all sources but particularly fats, sugar and alcohol, and increase your exercise.
But you can also increase your intake of other foods to help combat raised triglycerides. These are foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, such as flaxseed, walnuts and fish.
Many studies have shown that DHA and EPA, the two major essential fatty acids in omega 3, can lower blood triglyceride levels significantly. The American Heart Association recommends that patients with elevated blood fats should take 2 to 4 grams of DHA/EPA in capsule form every day. Just be careful not to take more than 3 grams unless directed to by your doctor, as some people can suffer from excessive bleeding with higher doses.
A high quality fish oil supplement will easily deliver all the DHA and EPA you need each day to combat your elevated blood fats. So go ahead and try taking fish oil for triglycerides–you will be amazed at the difference in your health and well-being.
