Carlson Fish Oil
Lovaza (formerly Omacor) vs Carlson Super Omega-3 fish oil?
What is the difference and what makes Lovaza (RX strength) different from Health food store over the counter strength.
I would appreciate doctor and phamacist imput not personal opinion. Thanks in advance.
*Omacor:
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in oil from certain types of fish, vegetables, and other plant sources. These fatty acids are not made by the body and must be consumed in the diet. Omacor works by lowering the body’s production of triglycerides. High levels of triglycerides can lead to coronary artery disease, heart disease, and stroke.
Omacor is used together with diet and exercise to help lower triglyceride levels in the blood.
*Omega-3 fish oil:
According to Gaziano JM, et al., (2004). Primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease. In E Braunwald et al., eds., Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, 7th ed., pp. 1057–1084. Philadelphia: Saunders, adding fish oils (omega-3 fatty acids) to your diet may lower triglyceride levels.
The two basically do the same thing, however, the Rx strength medication might be a more powerful way of getting results if your doctor prescribed it rather than telling you to simply diet, exercise and use Omega-3 fish oil. You should still eat healthy and exercise in addition to taking either medication.
