A quick summary about fish oil is below but if you are searching for a specific topic use the site “SEARCH” feature to the right.
Also, please check back often as we have new information being added all the time.
Thanks for visiting !
Omega 3 fish oil is widely known as a key source of essential Omega 3 fatty acids called DHA and EPA.
We need omega-3 fatty acids for numerous essential body functions to survive, but since our bodies cannot make omega-3 fats, we must get them through food or supplements.
The difficulty of obtaining enough of the healthy Omega 3 acids through food has caused many to discover the health benefits of fish oil supplements.
Unfortunately not all fish oil is the same and it is important to understand the differences as they can be significant.
The goal of this site is to provide a one stop resource for summarizing the important benefits of fish oil and to inform readers about the vital differences between various fish oil supplements.
Extensive research has been done on Omega fatty acids, and fish oil has been shown to help with :
- Heart disease and arrhythmias risk factors
- Improved brain function for adults
- Reducing arthritis by lowering joint inflammation
- Promoting healthy skin
- Helping with skin disorders like psoriasis or acne
- Improved brain development for infants and toddlers
- Protecting against certain cancers: colon, prostrate and breast
- Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disorder
- Alleviating mild depression
- Balancing cholesterol
- Reducing blood pressure
….and much more
Realize that not every benefit listed above is medically conclusive but considerable evidence does make the case for fish oil very compelling.
It is important to understand what has occurred over the years with modern diets as food production has evolved into using lots of processed vegetable oils because they are cheap.
This has caused a high intake of Omega 6 fatty acids.
Some estimates show that 85% or more of people in the Western world are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and most get far too much of the omega-6 fatty acids due to diet.
In fact vegetarian diets, for example, tend to be very high in omega-6.
The optimum ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 is 3:1. Over the last couple of decades it has gotten out of control to where it is now estimated that the ratio can be 20:1 or even as high as 50:1 for some people.
Please look through this site and I hope that it answers some of the common questions on fish oil. The “Contact” page at the top explains why I decided to research fish oil and believe in the benefits of taking Omega 3 fish oil supplements.
